Arkansas Pioneer Legislator Associate County Justice College Board and Trustee Member

Prominent among the early settlers and farmers of Washington County, Arkansas are the Blakemore’s. Lee Cage Blakemore first came to Washington County in 1831, he was a a Tennessean, born in Sumner County, Tennessee. He was married to Charlotte Johnson, a native of North Carolina. They had at least 6 children. He began his time in Fayetteville, Washington County engaged in the hotel business for about two years. Later he turned to farming. Blakemore was active in the community and took on several responsibilities. He accepted the appointment of Board Member and trustee of Elm Springs Male and Female Academy serving from 1849 to 1852. The Academy was taken over during the Civil War by General McCulloch as an arsenal. After the fatal battle of Pea Ridge the school was destroyed by the bombs and powder it contained.
Blakemore was elected to serve in the State Legislature for four terms, representing Washington County. His terms were from 1840-1845 and then from 1850-1851. He served as an Associate Justice for Washington County 1867-1868. Afterwards he was appointed Register of lands and served for 4 years in that capacity.
He retired to his farm in the country, where he spent the remainder of his days, dying at the age of eighty-two years. He had lived a long, active and useful life serving the public. He was laid to rest in the Friendship Cemetery, Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas

Third State Legislature: November 2, to December 28, 1840
Fourth State Legislature: November 7, 1842-February 4, 1843
Fifth State Legislature: November 5, 1844-January 10, 1845
Eighth State Legislature: November 4, 1850-January 13, 1851
