Allena Dryer, age 89, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, died Thursday, November 30, 2006 at the Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House in Mountain Home. She was born September 25, 1917, to George Pierce and Frances Elizabeth Milligan Keeter at Mullin Ridge, Arkansas. She attended school in Gassville and Flippin and received her Teachers Certificate from Arkansas State Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas) in Conway, Arkansas. She taught school in the Mountain Home area. Allena Keeter married J.D. Dryer on May 4, 1940 at Mountain Home. The couple owned Dryer’s Shoe Store for over 50 years. Allena Dryer was a Sunday School teacher, wasactive in the Women’s Missionary Union and also served as a leader for the children’s mission groups for many years at First Baptist Church in Mountain Home. She was involved in PTA, having served several terms as President, and was a member of Tau Gamma Gamma. She served on the CARTI board and also was a member of the ASU-Mountain Home Advisory Board. Allena Dryer will be remembered by her family and friends as a gracious southern lady.

Her parents, husband, a daughter, Fran Coulter, and eight brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Two daughters and three sons-in-law survive her: Connie and Roger Barnett: Mountain Home; Rebecca and Mike Murdock: Denton, Texas; and Ed Coulter: Mountain Home.

Her family was very special to her, and she quickly told others about her nine grandchildren: Kent and Karen Coulter: San Antonio, Texas; Kimberly and Bart Ferguson: Benton, Arkansas; Kelly and John McCuistion: Harrison, Arkansas; Sara Ivory and Brian Barnett: both of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Grant Murdock and Hannah Murdock: both of Denton, Texas.

Very dear to her heart were her eleven great-grandchildren: Ellen, Will and Anna Coulter: San Antonio; Clark, Sam and Caroline Ferguson: Benton; Chris, Coulter and Collier McCuistion: Harrison; Jacob Barnett: Mountain Home and Xavier Ivory: Fayetteville. Several nieces and nephews also survive Allena Dryer.
