Harold Thorne, 64, of Cotter died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at his home.
He was born Aug. 17, 1938, at Mountain Home to Jessie Charles Arthur and Jimmie Mattie Taylor Thorne. He wed Hazel "Tiny" Schultz at Cotter Oct. 16, 1960. A lifetime area native, he owned Cotter Aluminum Products for 40 years. Twice Mr. Thorne was selected for "Arkansas Who's Who in Business." A community leader, he retired after 25 years from Cotter Volunteer Fire Department, where he primarily served as chief. Mr. Thorne was elected to Cotter City Council and Cotter School Board which included service as president. Previously, he served the area as a member of the Civil Defense Board. An avid coon hunter, he was a licensed master of hounds and member of Twin Lakes Coon Hunters Association, often performing as an officer. Mr. Thorne continued his leadership role after retirement as a member of Walker Cemetery Association and was appointed by County Judge Joe Bodenhamer to Cotter-Gassville Fire Protection District.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel "Tiny" Thorne of the home; two sons Joseph M. and Troy W. Thorne, both of Flippin; one daughter Alisa Corke and her husband, Christopher C. Corke of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Travis, Shannon, and Michael Thorne, and Charlie and Mary Margaret Corke; two brothers, C. C. and Rose Thorne of Dallas and Dale and Charlene Thorne of Harrison; one sister, Evelyn and Fred Farmer of Harrison; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be noon-9 p.m. Saturday at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 7-9 p.m. A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Roller Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Walker Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks.
Arrangements are by Roller Funeral Home.
