Dr. Jeff Smith of Violet Hill Dies Wednesday

Dr. Jefferson D. Smith aged 81, of Violet Hill, a life-long resident of Izard County, died at a Batesville hospital Wednesday night. He was widely known in this part of the state.

He was born at Lunenburg. A graduate of a medical school at Memphis, he practiced in this county more that 45 years. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Billingsley of Violet Hill and a brother Dr. J. H. Smith of Oxford. Funeral services will be held at Violet Hill at 2 p.m. today.

Funeral Services For Dr. Jeff D. Smith Last Friday

Funeral services for Dr. Jeff D. Smith 81, Violet Hill and long time resident of Izard County, who died last Wednesday, December 31, was conducted Friday afternoon at the Fairview Church and interment at Fairview Cemetery.

Born in Lunenburg, Izard County, he attended schools of that county and was married to the former Betty Ashley in 1894. Four brothers of Dr. Smith also became physicians, only one of them still living. A son, Dr. Cecil Smith, a dentist, lost his life in World War I and children of his brothers brought a total of 13 doctors, two nurses and two medical students in the family.

Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Billingsley, Violet Hill and a brother, Dr. J. H. Smith, Oxford.
