Martin (aka Martin Springs) Cemetery
Baxter County,
Arkansas

This cemetery is not actually up in Martin Springs. It is down the hill on Route 341, right near the river. You can see the bluff and the river bridge from the entrance, where the sign is. There is another cemetery up in Martin Springs, but it is the Hurst Cemetery.

Many of the people buried in Martin Cemetery are descendants (or relatives of descendants) of Menan M. Martin, who lived from 1775-1849. His sons Joel C. Martin and Thomas D. Martin head the list of 18 descendants buried here, representing 6 consecutive generations. A large portion of them are Boyds. Almost everyone buried there is related to the others in some way. Please contact Jamie Ruth Blair Parfitt for the details of the relationships.

Two more descendants, Elva Harvey Hurst and Kelly Wade Hurst, are buried in the small cemetery called Hurst Cemetery which is up the hill in Martin Springs.

When I was a child growing up in Martin Springs, there was an annual pie supper in the old schoolhouse to raise funds for the upkeep of the cemetery.
