Thursday

William 'Joe' Wheeler, 80, of Salesville died Thrusday (Aug 13) at the Calico Rock Medical Center. A retired 20-year veteran of the US Air Force, he also served in the Air National Guard. He moved from Green Forest a year ago.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Leigon in Green Forest. He served in both World WAr II and the Korean conflict.
Visitation will be today from 9AM to 9PM at the Roller Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6-8PM.
Services will be at 2PM Saturday at Roller Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Frank Bernard officiating. Military graveside services at the Galatia Cemetery will be offered by the North Central Arkansas Veterans Council, with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3246 serving as honor guard.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Ruter, James Whitehead, Eugene Whitehead, Kenneth Whitehead, Kenneth Harp and F. 'Lefty' Harvey.
Born May 22, 1907, at Rush Creek, AR, he was the son of Emmer Suster Wheeler and Benjamin F. Wheeler. He and the former Sophie Szalai were married Apr 16, 1944, at Teddington, Staines, England.
He is survieved by his wife of the home; one step-brother, J.W. 'Red' Helton of Mt. Home; and several nieces and nepherws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
