VIOLET HILL — Doyne Harold Gaston, 86, of Violet Hill died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, in Calico Rock.

Born Nov. 24, 1922, in Violet Hill, he was the son of Shelby Houston Gaston and Hattie Bell Rogers Gaston. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of private first class. In 1964, he was united in marriage to Veneita Morgan. He was a farmer and a member of Forrest Chapel Methodist Church in Violet Hill.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years; a son, Terry Gaston of Violet Hill; a daughter, Sharon Weaver; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a half-brother, Sheley Owen Gaston; a half-sister, Inez Gaston; two daughters, Kathleen Arnold and Sharon Ray; and a great-granddaughter, Regan Nicole Arnold.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Loye Vern Mason officiating. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.

Pallbearers will be Doug Arnold, Chris Arnold, Brent Weaver, Jody Conway, Tony Conway and Jamie Roddy.

Honorary pallbearers are members of his Sunday school class at Forrest Chapel Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight.
