Carl Wallace Yearby, 87, of Hot Springs, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009. He was born Sept. 21, 1922 to Bessie and Orvis Yearby in Armstrong Springs, Ark.

He managed a local grocery store until his retirement. He was a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the second Marine division in the South Pacific. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal for injuries received during the battle of Saipan on Saipan island.

He was a proud member of the Elks Lodge #380, past President of the South Hot Springs Lion Club, and Royal Order of the Purple Heart chapter 336.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Pqueta M. Yearby, two sisters Odean Gay, Norma Jean Woolsey, one brother Ralph Yearby and grandson Timothy C. Pate.

Survivors include Estelle Miller of Hot Springs, Donna Hightower of Little Rock, Carlene and Brian Witt of Hot Springs, Stephen and Deborah Yearby of Hot Springs, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one brother Larry Piegge of Chicago, Ill.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Gross Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers: Robert Crowe, Mark Hightower, Jason Yearby, Brad Yearby, Kevin Yearby, Brian Witt, Christopher Pate, Lester Dierksen Memorial Hospice, Dr. John B. Bond, Dr. Richard E. Braley and Cannon Springs rehabilitation and nursing facility.

Carl loved his family and playing guitar. His charm and personality won him many life-long friends. He had the ability to take tossed away items and turning them into unique and beautiful art. His kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and love of life will always be remembered.

Private graveside services will be conducted by Herb Morgan, Chaplain.
