Evans Craig Floyd, 87, of Melbourne, Arkansas died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in Batesville.

She was born on March 18, 1922 in Mount Pleasant, Arkansas. She lived her entire life in Izard County and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Melbourne where she was a Sunday School teacher, choir member and active in WMU.

Evans was a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas. She was an English and Literature teacher, a librarian, and year book sponsor at Violet Hill School for 36 years. Even after teacher retirement, she continued to use her gifts by volunteering to help adults learn to read. She also served on the board of White River Area Agency on Aging. Her love of reading and writing influenced many and her love of God was shared through 35 plus years of teachings in her Sunday School classes.
Evans was preceded in death by her parents, L. O. and Mae Craig.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William Dean Floyd; two sisters: Ruth Pierce of Jonesboro and Claudine Bible and her husband, Dale of Batesville; 12 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews; and 11 great-great nieces and nephews along with a lifetime of friends.
Pallbearers will be James Floyd, Jerry Floyd, Allen Pierce, Quincy Massey, Billy Shaver, and Glen Billingsley. Honorary pallbearers are the Women’s Sunday School Class and Women’s WMU.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Melbourne with Ricky Burke and Doyne Robertson officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Violet Hill Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, Hwy. 9 Spur, Melbourne, AR 72556 in memory of Evans Floyd.
