Nickname was "Snake" and that is the name that most people were familiar with, in Mountain Home and well beyond. Leon was born in Norfork to EJ and Mildred Parnell. Leon was the oldest of 3 children: he, Mary Rose and Jim Parnell. Snake Parnell was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked many years as a lineman with AP&L (now Entergy) later retiring as a supervisor, then working as a contract electrical engineer for the power company. He was living in Cotter, AR at the time of his parting, faithfully married to his loving wife, Betty Jo (nee Hayes) Parnell.

Leon 'Snake' Parnell, 59, of Cotter died Thursday, Dec 5, 2002, at Baxter Regional Medical Center.
A funeral will be 2PM Sunday at East Side Baptist Church with the Rev Dr. Mike Shy officiating.
Visitation will be from noon-9PM today at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6-8PM.
Interment will be at Galatia Cemetery.
He was born to E.J. and Mildred Jones Parnell on Aug 15, 1943, at Salesville.
He graduated from Mt. Home High School.
He and Betty Ho Hayes married on Sep 6, 1964, at Yellville.
He was employed by 'The Baxter Bulletin', Esso, Entergy, Village Realty, and at the time of his deat by W.E.N.K. Engineering contracted to Entergy.
He was a member of the East Side Baptist Church, Harrison Kiwanis Club and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, camping and music.
Mr. Parnell is survived by his wife, Betty Jo, of the home; three sons, Larry Leon Parnell and his wife Charlotte, and their children, Jettie, Drew, and Nichlaus of Harrison, Gary Edward Parnell and his friend, Jan Lippert of St. Petersburg, FL and Micky Leman Parnell and his wife, Susan and their son, Cole, of Fort Lenoard Wood, MO; one daughter, Becky Jean Parnell and her fiance, Doug Ninedick of Merrillville, IN; his mother Mildred Parnell Hansen of Mt. Home; a sister Mary Rose Garner and her husband, Terry, of Batesville; a brother Jimmy Dale Parnell, of Searcy and many very special nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He ws preceded in death by his father, E.J. Parnell.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks.
Arrangements are by Roller Funeral Home.
