Sgt. Ray was a disabled combat veteran of the Vietnam War having served with distinction in the US Marine Corps from 1967 to 1969. Mr. Ray reached the rank of sergeant and his awards and citations included the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star and the Combat Action Ribbon. He was plagued by the unrelenting pain of inoperable embedded shrapnel that he carried for the last 40 years.
