This walled-in burial plot has no connection with pioneer history. It marks the last resting place of four members of a Turkish show troop which camped one night in the dry creek bed of Evansville creek. During the night a heavy rain in the hills sent a torrent of water rushing down the creek. Four of the strangers and their trained bears were drowned. For many years after the tragedy, the survivors each year visited the burial plot at Old Vineyard. None has been there recently. Yet the memory of these gypsies is kept alive through the years, as the story is told and re-told in the homes along Evansville creek.
