GREATHOUSE, Earl U. - Earl Greathouse, the 17-year-old son of J.R. Greathouse, died this morning at 8:15 o'clock at his home in the southeast part of town. Death was the result of pneumonia and he had been sick only ten days. The family came to Rogers last July from the central part of the state. The young man had been attending the public school here and his untimely death is a sad shock to his many friends and schoolmates.

Earl U. Greathouse was born at Metropolis, Ill. December 22nd, 1891 and died at the home of his parents in the southeast part of Rogers, April 1st, 1909. Earl was the son of J.T. and Maggie Greathouse and was the third of five sons. He was a quiet boy, dutiful to his parents and trustworthy. He was known in school as a diligent and obedient pupil; his teachers give testimony to his real worth. He was sick two weeks, suffered much but was patient and when the end come was ready to go, passing away in peace. The funeral was conducted by Rev. J.F.E. Bates Friday morning, his schoolmates taking special part in the services.
In his last conscious moments
he said, "I see a river I can cross"
