FERGUS, Jas. A. - Dr. Jas. A. Fergus died Monday evening at the home of his mother near Elm Springs after an illness of several years. The cause of his death is given as tuberculosis of the bone. He made a hard struggle against the disease but it was a hopeless task altho he never gave up hope until the very last. Funeral services were held at the church at Elm Springs yesterday morning and were conducted by Rev. Jeff Sherman of Bentonville, assisted by Rev. J.F. Carter of Elm Springs and Rev. S.M. Yancey of Rogers. A special train over the Kansas City & Memphis, carrying nearly one hundred Rogers friends and members of the Rogers Lodge No. 1223 B.R 0.E., of which the deceased was a member, went to Elm Springs and the funeral was held under the auspices of the order. The Elk services were observed at the church and also at the grave. The train was complimentary by R.C. Hobbs, a particular friend of the deceased. Mr. Fergus was born at Elm Springs and was 35 years, six months and 25 days old. He was married in the spring of 1911 to Miss Fra Oakley of this city who survives him. He is also survived by his mother and several brothers. Dr. Fergus received his medical education in Louisville and St. Louis and after his graduation returned to Elm Springs where he practiced for a time with his father, the late Dr. J.W. Fergus. In 1908 he came to Rogers and for several years engaged in general practice. Then he went to Chicago for a course as an eye, ear and throat specialist and returned to again locate in Rogers in that line. He built a comfortable home on South Third street and was doing fine when stricken with the disease that finally ended a most promising career. "Jim," as he was known by everyone, was one of the most popular young men Rogers has ever known and if he had an enemy in the world we never heard of it. He had all the attributes that made a real man and he was a friend worth having. He was loved by old and young and his long illness has been a great grief to all. He was cheerful thru all the days of inactivity and suffering and in his illness, as in health, was always glad to meet his many friends.
