FERGUS, Frank H. - After a brave struggle covering a period of more than two years Frank Fergus was finally forced to yield and he passed away Wednesday morning at 9:15 at the home of his parents near Elm Springs. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, South at Elm Springs yesterday morning at ten o'clock and the remains were interred in the cemetery at that place, services being conducted by Rev. Y.A. Gilmore. Frank H. Fergus was born at Robinson, Benton County, April 2, 1884 and was the third son of Dr. and Mrs. J.W. Fergus. He attended school at Elm Springs and later at Springdale and at the University of Arkansas. He taught school after leaving the University and for two years was assistant principal in the high school at Clarendon, Monroe County. He was assistant superintendent of the Springdale High School during the 1906-07 term and shorty before the close of school had to give up his work on account of rheumatism. He had been a sufferer from this disease for some time and after giving up his work here he grew gradually worse, although at times he seemed to improve but this improvement was not of a permanent character. For about two years past he has been confined to his home, practically helpless, and under such condition death to him was evidently a relief. He is survived by his parents, three brothers, Eb, Dr. J.A. and Will, and one sister, Miss Carrie. It is certainly sad to contemplate the death of a young man with such bright prospects as the future appeared to hold in store for Frank Fergus, and such things cause us to wonder at the ways of providence. While in school, whether as pupil or as a teacher, he was popular with the student body and with the faculty. No teacher in Springdale ever had a stronger hold on his students than did Frank Fergus. He was fond of athletics and during his days at the University was a member of the baseball team and later on was captain of the Springdale team. For fifteen years he had been a member of the M.E. Church, South. His memory will ever be cherished by the hundreds of friends who learned to admire and respect him, whether in the school room or on the athletic field.
