Campbell Cemetery
Hot Spring County,
Arkansas

This cemetery contains about 20 graves or so, with only 6 names on the tombstones. It dates back to the 1800's and survived the construction of Lake Catherine. Lake Catherine was created in a virtual wilderness between Hot Springs and Malvern when the Arkansas Power and Light Co. (now Entergy Corp.) completed Remmel Dam in 1924 to generate electricity. It was the state's first major hydroelectric facility. The grave site has not been maintained but it does appear someone has placed barbed wire around one of the gravesites (Mary J. Conzel) in recent years to protect the broken headstone. To get to this cemetary take Hwy 270 off I-30 toward Hot Springs. At Jones Mills turn left on Remmel Dam Road, then turn right on W County Line Road, then a right on Catherine Cove Loop. Several hundred yards on this road you will see a house on the right with a chain link fence and a road back this side of the fence. You can follow the road a short distance but then you need a 4 wheeler or you have to walk and it will help to have a GPS.
