Descendants (photo) *PIONEER HARRIS FAMILY

Harris Bottoms Cemetery
Stone County,
Arkansas

This is a very dedicated group of descendents of those buried in the Harris Bottoms Cemetery. They carry the official name of "The Pioneer Harris Family". This cemetery was competely swept away in 1927 by a major flood. The one stone that was left standing is still there today, This determined group purchased and had placed the memorial that is attached to the large stone in the middle of the picture. They have sought help to try to locate the site of the different graves that are now unmarked. They plan to try to purchase the property where the cemetery was once located. It was a much larger cemetery than first believed. Also, there is some proof that a large slave cemetery was located at the back of the Harris Bottoms original area. In picture: standing: Mr. Hayden (owner), Bill Nation, Mrs. Harris (David's mom), the next two with the arm around the shoulder I don't recall, Jimmy Harris (of Melbourne...we have two Jimmys), Barbara Cleboe, next two ??, Sharon Conoly and her mom, Jackie Ditto, next?, Gayle Thacker, George Ausburn (Gayle's brother), Kennard Harris, Pam McKenna, Dee Dee Cathy,
in front; Mary Jones, David Harris, Clint Harris, Gyuula Conley, Jurhee Ausburn (George's wife), and Howard Jones.
