August 18, 1841 - June 27, 1922
Enlisted Co B 8th AR infantry. Promoted to 2nd LT. 30 Jan 1862. Wounded with grape shot in left hip and captured at Chickamauga 8 Sep 1863. Spent the next 20 months in Johnson Island Prison, OH in Lake Erie. Pension application 24729 for disability. 2nd wife, Margaret applied for and received widow's pension 24729.
Something that is very interesting about O.S. aside from the CSA record, he was a preacher or at least preached. He formed his own church and the congregation later threw him out of the church. I have never been able to find out why, but it has to be a good story....getting thrown out of your own church.
Oliver Smith Jones was born on August 18, 1841 in Gwinnett County, Georgia and died on June 27, 1922 in Prescott, Nevada County, Arkansas.
