The family says Avis was born Aug., 1834 Johnson County TN -Apr 1901 Freck, Marion County AR
w/o 1st Stephne Daniel Morrow m. 26 Dec 1850; 2nd Carlton W. Smith

Avis was born in the Iron Mountan area of extreme northeastern Tenn, likely in what is now Johnson Co. It is not known when she, her nearest sister and their parents, moved to Lawrence Co. She was courted by Stephen Daniel Morrow after he chose between Avis and her younger sister. Stephen and Avis married on 26 Dec 1850 in Lawrence Co, Tennessee.
After a few years, Avis and Stephen moved to Iron Co, MO; her parents moved to the next county of Reynolds. The Morrow children were Elizabeth 'Betty' Ann Morrow, born 1856 in TN; William J Morrow, born 1857 in Iron, Iron Co, Missouri; Emeline Morrow, born 1859 in Iron, Iron Co, MO; Martha Adalaide Morrow, born 22 Jan 1862 in Iron, Iron Co, MO and died in Utica, Macomb Co, MI on 06 Jan 1966; and Rev. John Frank Morrow, born 14 March 1864 in Iron Co, Mo and died 29 Nov 1931 near Blue Ball, Scott Co, Arkansas.
After Stephen died, Avis married Carlton W Smith about 1865 in MO. Carlton already had several children by this first wife who died. Carlton moved the family to Arkansas after a short time to be near his parents. He and Avis parent additional children. However, they separated and divorced about 1881. Carlton remarried 03 Sept. 1885 at Cassville, Barry Co, Mo. To Carlton she bore Charloty, Eligh, Elen, Silas whom she lived with when she died, and Milley A Smith. Avis had one other child (unknown name) making 11 in all. Nine of her children survived her in 1900.
Avis Caroline and Stephen Daniel Morrow were my 3rd Great-Grandparents on my maternal side. --
A note of correction to Avis' headstone birth year: It should read 1836 as this is according to the 1850 US Census for Lawrence Co, TN and the 1860 US Census for Iron Co, MO. If the 1840 year were correct, this would mean that she married at 10 years of age. Avis was the eldest of her siblings who were born after 1835; so it would be consistant with the family birth order to use the 1834 date.
