DOESCHER, Henry - Rev. Henry Doescher died at the home of his son, A.R. Doescher in this city Monday morning Dec. 9, 1901 at 10 o'clock. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Doescher was one of the oldest citizens of Rogers and the following brief but interesting sketch of his life shows it to have been full of work and stirring events. He was born in Hanover, Germany on January 17, 1814, being at the time of his death 87 years, 10 months and 22 days old. When a young man he served a term of three years in the U.S. navy and was converted on board the old frigate, Brandywine, on the Pacific Ocean. After the expiration of his term of service he returned to Germany where he was married and united with the Baptist church. In Germany he had to suffer a great deal of persecution on account of being a Baptist, even being arrested for preaching the funeral sermon in the cemetery for his own children. In 1860 he, with his family, came to America and located in Minnesota, where he lived for 28 years, when he moved to Rogers, Arkansas where he has since resided with the exception of one year which he spent on the Pacific coast, mostly in Sacramento, Cal. He leaves two sons: A.R., with whom he made his home, and Theodore H., who lives in South Dakota.
