Mrs. Amanda M. Armstrong, an old resident of the county, died at her home in the Mason Valley community Thursday, Dec. 10 at the age of 86 years, four months and nine days. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon with interment in the family burying ground under the direction of Carpenter's of Gentry. Amanda Matilda Watts was born in Gordon county, Ga. August 1, 1845. She was married to William C. Armstrong December 16, 1860 and to this union were born 17 children, six of whom survive her: Thomas of Clarkston, Wash.; Henry and William of the home address; Mrs. Kate Mattson, Brewster, Wash.; Mrs. Grace Robinson, Kamiah, Idaho; Mrs. Elizabeth Griffith, Gentry, Ark. She professed faith in Christ an an early age and united with the 1st Methodist church. There was a majesty and a nobility in her life and character that was appreciated wherever she went. She was as strong in mind and character as she was kind and sweet in nature and spirit. She was keen and quick in perception and positive and forceful in action. She knew in whom she had believed and was persuaded that He was able to keep that which she had committed unto Him against that day. In her death there has passed from us' one in whom lived all that was brightest and best in human character - a winsome personality, a nobility of mind and heart, and eager and loving spirit of helpfulness to others and an earnest and deep spirituality.
