George Vernon Stevenson, 71 of Mountain Home passed away at his home Tuesday, September 18, 2007. He was born April 6, 1936 in McRae, Georgia to Claude and Mamie (Nichols) Stevenson. His mother died when he was a small baby. He married the former Ilene Willett August 27, 1986 in New Boston, Texas.
He is survived by his wife Ilene: of the home; 4 step-grandchildren Jessica Whitson and Katie Gregory: both of the home; Amanda Gregory: West Palm Beach, Florida, and Chad Gregory: Shreveport, Louisiana; 3 step children: Jimmy, Rory, and Penny Gregory; a sister-in-law Dorothy Stevenson of Fort Valley, Georgia; He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. He was the last family member of the Claude Stevenson family. He joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War at age 17 and was a truck driver all his life. He was currently employed at Magness Oil Company as a transport driver. He was a life member of Ozark VFW Post #3246 and a member of Gassville Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, at Oak Grove Cemetery with Charlie Willett officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Phillip Anglin, Benny Magness, Lynn Collie, Mike Watts, Diana Lacefield, Troy Cooper, Dave Lively, and Leon Kellum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stevenson Family. Arrangements are by Roller Funeral Home.
