Mrs. Hilda Sledge, age 82, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, died Monday January 12, 2009 at Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 16, 2009, at First Christian Church with Pastor Ron Rector officiating. Visitation with the family receiving friends will from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday at the church. Private entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Honor in Baxter Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Sledge was born August 11, 1926, in Emmen Drente, Holland, to Roelof and Trientje Hendrix DeJonge. She was a member of First Christian Church where she sang in the choir. A homemaker, she loved her family and was never idle, enjoying crocheting and flower gardening. In the 1950’s she became a naturalized American citizen and was very proud to be an American, proudly flying the American flag and wearing her American flag pin. She was a member of the Baxter Regional Hospital Auxiliary for over 30 years volunteering at the Bargain Box and taking menus at the hospital. She lived a very full life having lived and traveled all over the world.
Survivors are: two daughters: Trieneke M. (Bill) Self: Bull Shoals; and Della (Lyle) Scott: Lakeview; a brother: Jan DeJonge: British Columbia, Canada; a sister: Janna Veen: California; eight grandchildren: Michael (Paige) Self; David (Stephanie) Self; Dea Self; Phillippa Robson; Wade Robson; Paul Robson; Trieneke (Kevin) Shrable and George Kerr; two step-grandchildren: Melanie and Michael Scott; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews in Holland, Germany and Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Ray Sledge; a son: David Kerr; a grandson: Kenny Kerr; two brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks.
