Born: January 3, 1916
Died: July 9, 2006

Rose C. Schneck, age 90, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, died Sunday, July 9, 2006, at Hospice House. She was born January 3, 1916, in Chicago, Illinois, to Henry and Pauline Sommers Suppan. Hardworking and sociable, she had a special devotion to her family, the near north side of Chicago, and her parish, St. Michael’s, where she played the lead clarinet in the high school band. Her sister Harriet remembers fondly the family escaping the summer heat by camping out at Lincoln Park on the shores of Lake Michigan. Rose received a music scholarship from Mundelein College, but could not accept it due to the hardships of the Great Depression. She also received an offer to play in Ina Rae Hutton’s all-girl band. She traveled with her sister Dorothy in an all-girl Vaudeville band, the “Follies de Paris” throughout the United States and Canada. Rose met her future husband, Walter Schneck, while playing at Heinie Kabibbler’s Nightclub on north Clark Street in Chicago. They married on June 24, 1939, in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chicago.

She and her husband, Walter, moved to Buffalo Grove, Illinois, in 1947, and built their own home in the rural countryside. She had an abiding affection for her family pet, a Belgian Schipperke and show dog, “Bibo”. After losing their home to road development, they moved to Mountain Home in 1977. With her husband, she played in the “Glo-Notes” band in the Chicago area, and here in the Twin Lakes area for over 25 years. A member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, she had served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Council of Catholic Women; she played for years in the Mozark Symphony Orchestra.

She is survived by her husband: Walter Schneck: of the home; 4 sons: Dean R. (Gerrie) Schneck: Homer, Alaska; Dennis D. (Carol) Schneck: Hendersonville, North Carolina; Donald J. (Roxanne) Schneck: Springfield, Missouri; and Duane M. (Fiancee, Tara) Schneck: Hendersonville, North Carolina; 2 daughters: Denise R. (Robert) Markiewicz: New Era, Michigan; and Donna M. (Craig Hogan) Prather: Normal, Illinois; 1 sister: Harriet Suppan: Baton Rouge, Louisiana; 14 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends: Jean Hayes and Pinochle partners: Syke and Ellie Horcher and Family.
