Ray Dean McGuire, 82, of Mountain Home passed away June 14 at his residence. He was born July 12, 1925, to Harvey McGuire and Hope Baker McGuire in Lincoln, Nebraska. His family and he moved to Baxter County in 1926.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Tipton McGuire, whom he married January 11, 1947. He is survived by one daughter, Kathy (Bill) Lacefield of Jacksonville; one granddaughter, DeAnna (Dean) Campbell; and one grandson, Tim (Mindy) Lacefield; and two great-granddaughters, Regan and Riley Campbell. He is also survived by one brother, Jay McGuire of Clio, California; one sister, Phyllis Wagner of Pleasant Hill, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Willene McGuire of Carson City, Nevada; and numerous cousins who reside in the Mountain Home area. Mr. McGuire was also preceded in death by his mother and father and one brother, Lynn McGuire.

Mr. McGuire was a veteran of WWII having served his country in the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in 1944 and 1945, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He retired from the US Corps of Engineers in 1980 after 33 years of employment. He was a hydroelectric mechanic at both Bull Shoals and Norfork Dams. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved gardening.
