(Resolutions of Respects) At the speaking at Prairie Grove yesterday the candidates held a meeting and passed the following resolutions: Whereas, The melancholy fact has been brought to our knowledge that Hon. Hosea M. Maguire, for more than half a century a valuable citizen of our county, has been called to his long rest, Resolved. That in his death the church has lost a true and faithful member, and the country a useful and upright citizen. When honored by the people of his county as their Representative in the General Assembly, he was ever faithful to his duties; and actuated by patriotic motives, he determined his position on all public issues solely with reference to the interests of his constituents, and evaded no responsibility. Resolved, That we extend to the members of his family our sincere sympathy. W.M. Davis, Johnson Crawford, R.J. Wilson, Com.

The sorrowful announcement was made on our streets Tuesday morning that Hon. H.M. Maguire had passed away the evening before. His taking off was sudden. On Monday before his death he started on a canvass of the county, being a candidate for reelection to the legislature. He appeared to be in excellent health and fine spirits, his certain election being generally conceded. From Sarters Store he went to Reed township where he was taken violently ill on Tuesday. He was taken home and his family summoned to his side. On Friday he appeared to be better and Saturday he was thought to be considerably better. He was not so well Sunday, and rapidly grew worse and died Monday evening. Uncle Hosea Maguire was one of the best of men. During a long residence in Washington county he always acted an honorable part in the affairs of his home and country. There was nothing hypocritical about him. He was public spirited, liberal and charitable. He had been a member of the C.P. church for many years. One of our oldest and best citizens has gone and thousands mourn his loss.
