James Buttram, a member of the old Buttram family of early settlers who settled on Pea Ridge before the Civil war, died at his home south of Pea Ridge Thursday evening following an illness of some time. Death was due to Brights disease. Mr. Buttram was born on Pea Ridge about 50 years ago and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. The funeral services, which were held at Buttram’s chapel Saturday afternoon, were largely attended.

James H. Buttram was born at Pea Ridge on September 8th, 1876. He departed this life on December 16th, 1926. He was the sixth son of W.F. and Sarah Buttram. He was converted and joined the Methodist Church at Buttram’s Chapel in early manhood. He was married in December 1902 to Miss Sadie Head. They lived a happy life until she was called to join the endless caravan to the land from where no traveler returns October 4th, 1916. He was married on November 21st, 1917 to Mrs. Ula Skaggs. To this union were born two children, James Wilson and Mary Josephine, both of whom have gone to the better land. He lived an upright Christian life. Was a good neighbor, a kind and devoted husband, father and step-father. He leaves a wife, four step-children, one brother and two sisters to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at Buttram’s Chapel and burial made in the cemetery there, Revs. E.G. Downs and A.E. Carnahan officiating. Contributed.
