RACKLEY, John William - John William Rackley was born Nov. 20, 1880. He made a profession of the Christian religion when quite young though never became a member of the church. On July 5th, 1917 while at work on the farm, by a most painful accident, he fell on a pitchfork and so severely injured himself that life soon ebbed out and he passed to the great beyond under circumstances that were painful indeed. A mother, six brothers and an only sister survive. Funeral service was conducted by the writer in the presence of a large and sympathetic congregation and the remains were laid away in the Gentry cemetery J. Marshall Dempsey.

(from The Record) John Rackley, aged 27, living between Decatur and Springtown, was killed in the recent harvest when he impaled himself on a pitchfork. Rackley, with pitchfork in hand, jumped from his wagon of hay to a nearby strawstack. He missed the stack in his leap and fell to the ground on the upturned tines of the fork. The tines pierced his breast and drove thru his body toward his throat. He took a step forward, tried to draw out the fork and fell dead without a word. Several minutes elapsed before his father and brother, who were working nearby, knew of the accident.
