Laura Catherine Marting, 95, of Rogers passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at her home. She was born Aug. 19, 1910, in Stoy, Ill., to Thomas B. and Lela Gertrude Exley Yargar.

She was a graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon, Ill., where she earned a bachelor's degree. She went on to complete her education at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where she obtained a master's degree. She also did additional training at the universities of Illinois and Wisconsin.

She and Mr. Marting moved to the Northwest Arkansas area in 1969 from Palos Heights, Ill., making their home in Fayetteville until coming to Rogers in 1973.

She taught high school for 21 years, touching the lives of her students in Oblong, Decatur, West Aurora, Tinley Park and Midlothian, Ill., public school systems. She was the adult education director with the Girl Scouts in Chicago for 10 years. She was also active in church work, creative arts, traveling and outdoor activities. Some of her other interests included the Rogers Little Theatre, arts and crafts, music and working with the youth in various organizations.

She and Harry J. Marting were married 48 years at the time of his death in 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, stepson, Robert J. Marting, sister, Lenis Frey and two brothers-in-law.

She is survived by one sister, Jean Y. Snyder of Mequon, Wis.; five nephews and nieces survive her as well.

Mrs. Marting and her extended family have shared many hours of visiting and living together. She will be greatly missed by all who shared in her life.

A memorial service for Mrs. Marting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Rogers. The Rev. Jaime Alexander will officiate.

The family will receive friends at a reception to be held in the Innisfree Retirement Center's new dining hall at 2 p.m. It was Mrs. Marting's wish that friends give to a favorite charity in her memory.
