CAUGHMAN, Alfred W. - The grave of Alfred W. Caughman, Arkansas pioneer who was said to have killed a thousand deer by actual count, is drawing visitors from all over Arkansas to Collier's cemetery, about two and a half miles from Winslow Collier's cemetery, close to the highest point in the Ozarks, which point is on the summer estate of the Bacon family, contains the rude grave with this quaint inscription borne up stoutly by local tradition as absolute truth: "Alfred W. Caughman, Born in Izard County, Ark. Jan. 3, 1826; died March 23, 1875, Killed over a thousand deer he did truthfully say. He was born and raised a frontiersman's son, But at last had to give up his life and gun."
