SON OF E.L. & L.C. TAYLOR
OUR DARLING BABY

Obit provided by Freda:
TAYLOR, Gerald – {from The Springdale News} As a result of being kicked in the head by a young colt, Gerald Taylor, 12 year old so of E.L. Taylor, died at the residence of James Hawn Saturday morning at 10 o'clock.

The accident occurred Friday evening about 7:30 while James Hawn, son of James Hawn, and Gerald, were taking the mare and colt home. The kick struck the lad just over the left eye, crushing his skull. He was knocked unconscious by the blow and never rallied, growing weaker and weaker. An operation was performed last Friday night as the last hope of his recovery, but was unsuccessful. Just how the accident occurred and what caused the colt to kick, and how the little fellow happened to be in the way of the heels of the colt will never be known as no one witnessed the mishap. The clot and mare had been exhibited at the Washington County Fair at Fayetteville during the week and were returning home. A.M. Reed, who resides southeast of Springdale brought the mare and colt from Fayetteville and turned them over to the Hawn boy and to Gerald at the S.L. Boone Breeding Barn, it being understood that the boys were to take the mare and colt home. It was about 7 o'clock when the boys started home, growing dark, and young Hawn was in front leading the mare while Gerald and the colt were coming along some 30 or 40 yards in the rear. The first intimation that young Hawn had that anything was wrong was when he noticed the colt run by the mare. He then turned and called to Gerald and receiving no answer hurried down the road. He had gone only a short distance when he noticed Gerald lying in the ditch near the roadside. He realized that Gerald was hurt. The stricken boy was carried to the residence of Jas. Hawn near which the accident occurred and physicians summoned. The boy seemed to have been paralyzed by the kick and the cut over his left eye showed the plain imprint of the hoof of the colt.
