RENNER, Reuben E. - Although R.E. Renner had been precariously ill for some time the people were unprepared Tuesday morning for the announcement of his death which occurred about 7 a.m. He had been better for the past few days and Sunday and Monday was able to be up. He did not rest well Monday night but his death was a shock to the family as they were not anticipating it. Mr. Renner had been ill since December with organic heart trouble. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Arcade Hotel, the home of the family, being conducted by Rev. J.F. Palmer. During the hour of services the business houses of the town all closed as a mark of respect and esteem for the deceased. The remains were interred in Bluff Cemetery and were followed to their last resting place by many friends. Reuben E. Renner was born in Green County, Tenn. March 11, 1846 where his early life was spent. In 1884 with his family he moved to Kansas and after remaining there for nine months came to Arkansas in February 1885, locating in Springdale which has since been his home except for a short time when he was in the hotel business at Aurora, Mo. He had been engaged in the hotel business in Springdale for about twenty years, first managing the old Springdale Hotel which stood on the corner where the post office is now located. He has had charge of the Arcade for about six years, which he purchased from J.W. Carrel, the owner, during the latter's life time. Mr. Renner served in the Federal army four years during the Civil War, being a member of Co. E, 8th Tennessee Infantry. September 1, 1867 he was united in marriage to Josephine Young who, together with six children, are now living and who had been with the deceased almost constantly for some time. Although most of the children are married and have homes of their own this is the first link to be broken in the family chain. The children are: Mrs. Ellen Phenicie, Reno, Kansas; Chas. F., Mrs. Retta Dodson, Mrs. Sallie Patterson and Mack, all of Springdale, and Mrs. Kate Patterson, whose home is in Springfield, Mo. In addition deceased has a brother, W.F. Renner, living at Coweta, I.T.; a sister, Mrs.{sic} Elizabeth Renner at Marshfield, Mo. and two sisters, Mrs. Green Parrott and Miss Louiza Renner of Springdale. Deceased united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Tennessee and was also a member of the K. of P., I.O.O.F. and G.A.R. fraternities. Mr. Renner made a success of the hotel business, was popular with the traveling public and was esteemed and respected by his neighbors and those who knew him. He will be missed, not alone by his family but by the traveling public and by those among whom he has lived and labored for twenty years. Peace to his memory.
