SCROGGINS, John H. - John H. Scroggins died yesterday morning at two o'clock at his home in the southeast part of Rogers. He had been very low for several days and his death was no surprise to those who knew of his condition. Consumption was the cause of his death and he had been confined to the house for many months. He never lost hope in his ultimate recovery and was always feeling that in just another week or so he would be able to start for Texas and resume work with the rest of the "boys." For the last six or seven years he had been traveling for Todd & Kraft, commission merchants of Des Moines, Iowa, who counted him among their best traveling men. He started to make a trip to Denver for them last summer but was taken sick and compelled to return. John was popular among his associates and fruit growers - the best tests of a man in his line of work. He had a large circle of friends here and it has been a constant grief to them to watch him slowly slipping away from them. He was born June 15, 1876 in Missouri, coming to Benton county when quite young with his parents, who settled west of where Rogers now stands. His father, Dr. Scroggins, was a well known resident of Rogers in the early days and John grew to manhood here, living with his mother and sister, Lulu, who survive him. He also leaves a brother, Bob Cook, of South McAlester, I.T., who arrived Sunday in response to a telegram telling of John's serious condition. Funeral services are being conducted at the residence this afternoon at two o'clock by Elder T.J. Keller. The Masonic and W.O.W. orders, of which the deceased was a member, are assisting. Interment will be at Oakley Chapel.
