*CC Note: There are a couple of theories regarding James M Ingram and the Stone Family. Below is information provided by Carole Beaver, a descendant of James M. Ingram, who has done years of research and is also instrumental in the new memorial and clean up at Ingram Cemetery. She has also located what is left of the Stone Family Cemetery. It is located on private property in Washington County. The photos are listed under Stone Family Cemetery in Washington County.

One theory is that James M. Ingram killed William B. Stone. Carole's research shows that he instead killed John Dudley Stone of Springdale, Washington County Arkansas. It was later that John Dudley Stone's 19 year old son John, killed James M. Ingram.

Ingram was a Confederate soldier and his unit was directed to go about interrupting and engaging the Union Army where ever possible. Stone was a Union soldier and his unit was directed to do the same. The two murders were a result of war time activities and revenge for those activities.
