WELLS, W.L. - "Grandpa" W.L. Wells, for several years a citizen of Gravette, died Tuesday morning, July 11, 1916 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.E. Rogers, at the advanced age of 90 years and two months. He has been an invalid for some years and bedridden for several months. A friend says of him: "He has gone to his long vacation, about which he has talked so often. His word was as good as a gold bond. He was always on the giving side. He never united with any church but he did live up to the golden rule; was always ready and willing to help those who needed help; was kind and sympathizing. His home was always open to all; the latch string hung from the outside. His heart was in the right place." W.L. Wells was born in Georgia; later lived in Texas where he had large holdings and has been a resident of Gravette for a number of years. His wife died at their home in this city some years ago. Mr. Wells leaves three daughters: Mrs. W.E. Rogers, who has cared for him in his declining years; Mrs. W.A. Lee of Ft. Smith, who was present when he died and Mrs. W.S. McDonald of Okla. Other relatives are grandchildren: C.M. Rogers of Gravette; Mrs. Lola Drennen of Kansas City, Kan.; Willie Wells, Collier, Kan.; Mrs. Sallie Ellis, Pine Bluff, Ark.; and Minnie and Artie Daniel, children of an elder daughter who died some years ago. Rev. G.A. Wilson conducted the funeral from the family residence Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. and burial took place in the I.O.O.F. cemetery beside the grave of his companion.
