"Sam" though born in Tennessee was raised on the Gibson place in Marion County, Arkansas, near Mountain Home. He worked for the railroad most of his life, becoming the roundhouse foreman in Cotter. After being fired by the railroad, however he sued and won reinstatement as a parts man. He was twice married and had one son Gerald by his first wife Clydie. He married 2nd to Mae Bonham.
