Josie was raised near Gainsboro, Tennessee. She married there; then moved with husband Sam to Marion County, Arkansas about 1890. She lived on the Gibson homeplace between Yellville and Flippin in Marion County until her death in 1959/1960 at the age of 91 or 92. According to the late Clive Gibson, she was a small wirey person who was hyperactive. She was the diciplinarian in the family.
Source - Alfreda Chinski - (Chinski@comcast.net) "Josie's" complete name was Clara Josephine Lucinda Cenella Catherine MAHANEY. She was named for all her great-grandmothers as well as her grandmothers. Since one grandmother and one great-grandmother was named Lucinda, there were only five names not six. Such a long name for such a small person, that's why she was always called only Josie. She was the daughter of Christopher Columbus "Lum" MAHANEY and his first wife, Margaret Jane "Peggy" Jones. "Josie's" birth is recorded in the family Bible of Christopher C Mahaney. That Bible, although not in great condition, is still in the possession of the family in Jackson Co., TN today. Karen Raichle (KRai3@aol.com) Samuel Pennington Gibson married "Josie" Mahaney in District 1 of Jackson Co., TN. The service took place at the home of the bride's father, C.C. Mahaney. The marriage was performed by County Court Judge M.B. Youn. The marriage is found in Volume A, record #94,p 184 Jackson Co., TN Marriage Records. The marriage license taken out on the same day lists the ages as Josie 14 and Sam 21. In most records of Jackson Co, the name is spelled Gipson.
