SHOCKLEY, Susan Ella Jane HARDWICK - Mrs. Joe (Ella Hardwick} Shockley, who has been battling for life since she underwent a serious operation some weeks ago, died Tuesday morning at her home on Railroad street. She was about 42 years of age. Mrs. Shockley grew to womanhood in Gravette and enjoyed a wide acquaintance. She leaves one sister, Anna, and two brothers, John and James Hardwick. Mr. Shockley, who was employed in Alabama, arrived this Thursday morning and the funeral will be conducted at the M.E. church by Rev. Lark at 2 p.m. Friday and burial will be at the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Miss Susan Ella Jane Hardwick was born near Sulphur Springs, Ark. Sept. 5, 1883; died at her home in Gravette Dec. 30, 1924 at the age of 41 years, 4 months, 25 days. She was married to Joe Shockley Sept. 19, 1917 at Fort Smith, Ark, at Mrs. Bassham's residence. (Mr. Shockley is employed by the Texas Rode (sic) Co. He asked the company to stop work five minutes during the funeral. They wired back they would shutdown all evening. Sister Shockley was converted four years ago. She lived a constant Christian life and was a member of the Church of God. She bade loved ones and friends farewell and went to join her father, mother and brother who preceded her to the glory world. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, Joe Shockley; one sister, Mrs. Anna Starch; two brothers, John and James Hardwick; two sisters-in-law, six nieces, 3 nephews and a host of friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Lark, assisted by others, at the M.E. church Jan. 2, 1925, to a large sympathizing congregation. Sister Shockley was loved by all who knew her. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
