Mrs. Cleffie Isiphene Jackson Bates of Ash Flat, Arkansas, died on Monday, May 29, 2017, in Batesville, Arkansas, at the age of 101.

She was born to the late Clara Horton Johnson and William Owen Jackson on May 23, 1916. Cleffie was united in marriage to Claud Bates on July 24, 1937, in Waterville, Washington; they had one son, Edward Bates on June 6, 1938.

She was a homemaker and later worked as a cook at The Clubhouse Restaurant and the Ash Flat Livestock Auction. Cleffie was a founding member of the Myron Baptist Church. She was a beloved grandma to everyone and was well known for her home cooking.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Jennifer Robey and husband Andrew of Locust Grove, Arkansas; grandson, Steve Bates of Ash Flat, Arkansas; great-granddaughters, Jessica Vance and husband Chris of Batesville, Arkansas, and C.J. Elumbaugh and husband Rusty of Batesville, Arkansas; great-grandsons, Adam Bates and wife Amy of Ash Flat, Arkansas, and Dillon Bates of Ash Flat, Arkansas; great-great-granddaughters, Peyton Landreth, Katlin Bates, Robey Landreth, Emma Bates, Ruth Ann Bates, Madelyn Vance and Victoria Vance; and great-great-grandsons, Rider Elumbaugh and Rixon Elumbaugh. She is also survived by a sister, Donna Sue Spurlock of Evening Shade, Arkansas; and brothers, Boyd Jackson of Ash Flat, Arkansas, Jimmy Johnson of Ash Flat, Arkansas, and Verdon Jackson of Ash Flat, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claud; son, Edward; daughter in-law, Emma Jo; granddaughter, Melesa Jo Bates; grandson, Marvin Stanley Bates; sisters, Kathleen Clift and Wanda Jean Barttelt; brothers, Arlis Johnson and Lenard Johnson.

Funeral services were at the Myron Baptist Church today, May 31, 2017, at 10 a.m., with Bro. Henry Parker, Bro. Ernest Allen and Adam Bates officiating. Burial followed in the Bates Cemetery.
