MAHANAY, Garland T. - Garland T., son of Mr. and Mrs. M.M. Mahanay of this place, died at Pittsburg, Kan. Tuesday, May 22, 1917 following 5 days affliction from meningitis. He was born in Oklahoma Jan. 13, 1894 and was aged 23 years. Garland grew to manhood in this community and has been employed in the K.C.S. Ry. shops at Pittsburg for some time. Besides his parents he leaves a young wife (formerly Miss Birdie Hopkins}, one brother, Estel, and four sisters, Mrs. J.C. Busey and Mrs. Elmer Bailey of Pittsburg; Mrs. Jas. Nitchman and Miss Mable Mahanay. The body was brought to Gravette Wednesday and Eld. J.E. Teaney conducts the funeral at the Christian church Thursday at 2 p.m. after which burial takes place at the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The News Herald speaks for the community in extending the bereaved family condolence.
