HILL, Bertram - On last Thursday afternoon about 5 o'clock, Bertram Hill, a little 12-year-old boy, went to the DeShong residence to find his playmate, Louis DeShong, of about the same age. He found Louis upstairs in his room preparing his lessons for the next day. As boys will, they immediately began to play. A small calibre shotgun was spied by one of the boys and in the scuffle for its possession the gun was dropped to the floor and went off. The load went straight through Bertram's heart, killing him almost instantly. The boys never dreamed that the gun was loaded and no blame attaches to anyone. The little victim of this sad accident was an orphan. He had been cared for and furnished a home since his mother's death in the family of his uncle, Kay Higginbotham. At the time of the accident he was living with the family of the Rev. M.L. Voyles, the father of Mrs. Higginbotham, in order to attend the school in Bentonville. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.A. Moffit and the body was laid to rest in the city cemetery.
