John Michael Clayton, born Dec. 20, 1973, the beloved son of Rev. Michael R. and Ann Parham Jones Clayton of Benton, died Sept. 12, 2008, in Little Rock.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Malvern, where his father had served as minister for some years. John’s heart was at a place which he and family members called “the farm,” near the Fairplay community in Saline County.
There he loved to spend time and fish, mainly for catfish, but also for bass. Around Fairplay, and elsewhere, he had good friends whom he visited as he made rounds in his pick-up. John was a strong person and had a dry sense of humor and a tough disposition. He had a big heart and admiration for his niece and nephew. He kept a soft spot for animals, especially his cat, Fishie. He was a loyal, insightful, sensitive friend and family member. He will be greatly missed.
John is preceded in death by his grandparents, Woodrow W. and Anne H. Jones and J. Ralph Clayton.
He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Shelley Clayton Gentry and her husband, W. Brooks of Little Rock, and Beth Clayton and her partner, Patricia Racette of New York; grandmother, Lois Clayton of Little Rock; a nephew, Clayton Brooks Gentry and niece, Sterling Anne Gentry; an uncle, W. Wilson Jones and wife, Peggy Schell of Little Rock; an aunt, Anna Carolyn Bradley and her husband Bob, of Little Rock; and lifelong special friends, James and Lucille Nix of Lonoke.
In his illness, John spent ten days at UAMS and a weekend at Saline Memorial Hospital. At both institutions, he received compassion and care for which he and his family were grateful.
A private burial will be held Sept. 16, in New Rosemont Cemetery in Benton, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Malvern. John’s family will receive friends at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton on Monday, Sept. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
His parents request that memorials be directed to a favorite charity.
Arrangements are provided by Roller-Ballard Funeral Home of Benton, 315-4047.
