Bertha Lee Childress, 84, of Benton went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 10, 2006. She was born December 16, 1921, in Keo to Cleve and Mary Welch. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a meticulous homemaker where a clean house was a clean soul with no barriers between her and her Lord.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Doyle Childress of Benton, daughter Laverne Whatley of Benton; daughters-in-law Mellie Childress of Benton and Mary Harris of Alexander, 12 surviving grandchildren Alice Bray, Trish Lemmer, Roger Lemmer, Bill Lemmer, John Lemmer, Kim Lemmer, Ricky Harris, Keith Harris, Lisa Harris, Joy Childress, Mary Beth Childress, and Christopher Childress, and numerous great-grandchildren; sisters Helen Childress, Joyce Taylor, Lois Gutierez, and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her daughter Patricia Lemmer and two sons, Don Childress and Bobby Harris.

Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 14, 2006, in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (315-4047) with Bro. David Walker officiating. Mrs. Childress will be laid to rest at New Rosemont Memorial Park following the service.
