FEEMSTER, Dougal - Monday afternoon May 15, word rapidly spread over town that Dougal Feemster was dead. On Wednesday evening proceeding as usual he attended prayer meeting but spoke of not feeling well when he returned home. By the next morning the strong hand of disease had taken firm hold upon him and that suffering had begun which was to grow rapidly more and more acute and severe till death offered rest. The best of medical aid was procured but all to no effect. Sunday an operation was performed by Dr. Benton of Neosho, assisted by home physicians, after which his friends were more hopeful of his recovery. But no, the grasp of the disease was too deadly, and Dougal was the victim. He was born in the state of Missouri 15 years ago the 24th of next July. At 10 years of age his parents, Mr. D.W. Feemster and Mrs. Barbara E. Feemster, came with their children to Arkansas and located at Gentry. Here Dougal grew from a lad to a youth of nearly fifteen, attending school, working on a farm or doing other things that were at hand. Last summer when the Academy campus was being cleared of brush, he offered his services that he might help pay his tuition; this showed his spirit. In school he worked hard and even now I can see his face light up as I ask some question in U.S. History, of which study he was very fond. All the students were his friends and much was expected from him. On Tuesday the Academy adjourned school in behalf of his memory as a student. At 3:30 p.m. a large concourse of people assembled at the Presbyterian Church where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.M. Hughey. Six fellow students as pall-bearers sadly bore him to the grave located in the new cemetery southwest of town where the concluding services were held and he was kindly laid in his final resting place.
