Celia Vire was born in Breathitt County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Randolph Vire Sr. and Celia Roberts. She married Andrew Jackson Mays on May 12, 1881 in Breathitt County, KY at the home of Jiles Gross. Witnesses were Marion Spicer and Jiles Gross. They came to Clarksville, Arkansas, by train in February 1886.
