Sarah E. MAGGARD

White Church Cemetery
Boone County,
Arkansas

dau of H.E. and L.M. 3 Aug 1856-17 Sep 1871
The 1860 census for Randolph co, MO shows Susan (6), M.E.(4) and two younger children. M.E. must be Sarah, because there is another stone for Susan, who died in 1872.
A book on Boone County history tells this story. Sarah and other children were playing in the schoolyard(White Church was also the school) and they were discussing the cemetery that was being prepared for use behind the church. Sarah said "I wonder who will be the first to be buried in this cemetery? If it's me I want to be buried under that tree." She died in 1871 at age 13 and was buried under the tree she had pointed out.
