James Thrush Dies After Brief Illness

James Thrush, aged 68, a resident of this place for only a few months, died at his home in the east part of town, Saturday morning, July 24. He became ill a few hours before his death, suffering from a heart attack.

Mr. Thrush was a native of Indiana, where he spent the greater part of his life. He was a resident of California for several months before moving to Calico Rock less than a year ago. He served in the U. S. Army for two years and was a veteran of the Spanish-American war and also saw service on the Mexican border during the border disturbances. He was an ex-Marine Guard and a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent during World War I and World War II. He was commander of the Rochester, Ind., camp of United Spanish War Veterans for several years. He was superintendent of the power and light plant at Rochester for twenty-five years and was instructor of electricity in the college there.

Mr. Thrush always took a very active part in all civic affairs in the city where he resided. He was a member of the Baptist church in Rochester. He is survived by his wife, one son, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were conducted at the Calico Rock Presbyterian church, Monday at 2:00 p.m. by the pastor, Rev. Hubert Morrow. Burial was in Rose Lawn Cemetery at this place with the Roller Funeral Service in charge.

The following members of the Wilson-Byler Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars served as pall bearers: Spence Harris, Roy Perryman, Tip Wiseman, Eugene Warren, Richard Armstrong, Howard Russell, Rudolph Dillard and Zane Sanders.
