Sam Shipman Electrocuted at Home Here, Sun
Killed Almost Instantly By Coming in Contact with Electric Wiring at New Home
Sam Shipman of this place accidentally died by electrocution at his home in the east part of town, Sunday morning, Shortly after 9 o'clock. Death was almost instantaneous.
Mr. Shipman who lived in the west part of town, had gone to his uncompleted dwelling house in the east part of town and was accompanied by his wife. After a few moments, Mr. Shipman left the dwelling and went to a nearby shop building. He was in the act of making some wiring connections on an electrical appliance when stricken.
The deceased was 36 years of age. He was born at Greenville, Mo. and moved with his parents to Calico Rock 35 years ago. With exception of a few months practically all his life was spent here. He was well and favorably known to a large circle of friends, who are deeply grieved at this unexpected tragedy. Mr. Shipman had been employed as a mechanic the past several years. He was employed in Indiana the last Part of Last year and the first of this, returning here to start work on his new dwelling.
He is survived by his wife Leila; a daughter by a former marriage, Maxine Shipman, of Clintwood, Virginia; his mother, Mrs. Fannie Shipman of this place; three brothers, Eber Shipman of this place, Roy of Syracuse, New York, and Vannard of Cold Springs Harbor, Long Island, N.Y. and a half brother, Cleve Shipman of the state of Washington.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Tuesday afternoon with Eld. T. H. Sherrill of Searcy in charge. Burial took place in Roselawn cemetery at this place Thursday afternoon. The McGuire Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
