Mrs. Earl T. Estes Dies Following Long Illness

Mrs. Alma Hayden Estes, wife of Postmaster Earl T. Estes of this place, died at the family home Friday morning after an illness that had kept her confined to her bed for the past several months. Her death was not unexpected; as she had been in declining health for some time and it war realized that the end was inevitable.

Over two years ago Mrs. Estes submitted to a brain operation, and for some time following hopes were entertained for her recovery, but during later months she suffered a relapse, from which she failed to rally.

Mrs. Estes was born near Optimus, Stone County and was 47 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Hayden. In 1920 she was married to Earl T. Estes of Calico Rock, to which union two sons were born. The greater part of her life was spent at Mt. Olive and at this place, excepting a few years residence at Harrison and Eureka Springs. She was one of the community's best known women. A member of the Baptist Church of Calico Rock, she was active in church and social work until she suffered impaired health. The same Christian spirit that characterized her life was manifest in the fortitude and cheerfulness displayed during the trying weeks of her illness. He passing is deeply regretted by the host of friends, neighbors and relatives.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church, with the Rev. D. D. Steely, pastor of the Baptist Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. W. Johnston, pastor of the Methodist Church. Interment was in the Rose Lawn Cemetery of this place, funeral arrangements being in charge of the McClure funeral home.

Pall bearers were R. H. Wood, L. E. Evans, Jas. M. Bell, Floyd Jackson, A. W. Smith and Jim Lamb.

Surviving are Mr. Estes; two sons, William R. and Hayden Karr Estes of Calico Rock and five brothers, the Rev. R. S. Hayden of Conway, Robert L. Hayden of Taft, Calif., County Judge Hale Hayden of Mountain View, Walter Hayden of Guion and Jesse Hayden of Boswell and a sister Mrs. Jennie Mayo of Okemah, Okla.
