PORTLAND, Ore. — Harold Klein was born to John Klein and Amelia Fromm in Fairfax, S.D., on March 31, 1918. He died on May 22, 2011, in Portland, Ore.

Harold accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a young man and endeavored to walk as a Christian all of his life.

He received his education in Fairfax, S.D., public schools. He was married to Selma Ruth Winter of Wessington, S.D., on June 15, 1939, by Pastor Edwin Gutjahr at a Hand County, S.D., German Congregational Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Klein resided in Gregory, S.D., prior to moving to Vancouver, Wash., where he worked in the Kaiser shipyard as a hull inspector during World War II.

After the war, they moved to Salem, Ore., until 1948 when they moved to Huron, S.D. Between 1951 and 1978, they resided in several Western Oregon locales. He was chairman of the Christian Business Men's Committee International in Salem, Ore., for many years. as well as being active in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.

The Kleins moved to Bentonville. Ark., in 1978. He was employed by Union Carbide until retirement in 1983. A few years after retiring, he accepted employment with Wal-Mart as a greeter at the Wal-Mart Visitor Center Museum, where be welcomed guests for 15 years. After moving to Arkansas, he became a member of First Baptist Bentonville, then a member of Centerton First Baptist, and after moving to Springdale, a member of First Baptist Springdale.

After the loss of his wife of 66 1/2 years in December 2005, he took up residence at Homestyle Assisted Living in Springdale, Ark. In January 2011, he moved to an assisted living facility in Portland, Ore.

Three sons and one daughter survive him: Robert L. Klein of Homer, Alaska, Norman D. Klein of Altoona, Iowa, James P. Klein of McMinnville, Ore., and Carol Martis Robeson of Portland, Ore. There are seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at l p.m. on July 13, 2011, at Centerton First Baptist Church, Centerton, Ark., Pastor Cliff Palmer officiating.

Memorials may be made to Centerton First Baptist Building Fund.

ROGERS — Selma Winter Klein, 88, of Rogers died Dec. 5, 2005. She was born June 14, 1917, to Nathaniel and Martha Tiede Winter. She was a graduate of Fairfax (S.D.) High School. She and her husband were former residents of Vancouver, Wash. She was a homemaker. She moved to Bentonville in 1978 and worked for Wal-Mart until retiring. She was a Christian and a member of Centerton First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Klein of the home; three sons, Robert L. Klein of Rogers, Norman D. Klein of Altoona, Iowa, and James Paul Klein of McMinnville, Ore.; one daughter, Carol Martis Robeson of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Centerton First Baptist Church with Cliff Palmer and Stuart Bell officiating.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Bentonville. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Layton Egger, Tom Laird, Allen Kinyon, Terry Taylor, Tony Aliason, Roger Reid, Tom Blazi, Von Johnson and J.W. Monk.

Memorials may be made to Centerton First Baptist Building Program, 351 W. Centerton Blvd., Centerton, 72719.
